The UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has taken a pioneering leap forward with the launch of the Cargo Data Reporting System (CARDS). The system is the first of its kind to provide an analytical view of air cargo movement in the UAE. Moreover, it offers multiple technical services to government entities, national airlines, ground handling agents and express service providers.
By analyzing the performance of national airlines, ground handling agents and express service providers, the CARDS platform will share results and market share data with each entity.
Moreover, CARDS empowers decision-makers to identify strengths, weaknesses and opportunities, thereby enhancing the competitiveness of the air cargo sector in the UAE. This data-driven approach enables stakeholders to make informed decisions, optimize operations and elevate standards of service delivery.
Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, minister of economy and chairman of the board of directors of the GCAA, underscored the UAE’s global standing in air cargo efficiency and infrastructure. He emphasized CARDS’ pivotal role in advancing the UAE’s leadership in this vital sector, and highlighted how it aligns with the objectives of the ‘We the UAE 2031’ vision.
CARDS serves as a strategic tool to monitor challenges, identify obstacles, and propel the UAE’s economic growth and development. Hence, the UAE aims to establish itself as a global hub for the new economy, particularly in aviation and logistics.
CARDS will strengthen existing partnerships between GCAA and representatives of the UAE’s air cargo sector. It will also help them in decision-making and planning for the future. Moreover, it seeks to enhance the competitiveness of the civil aviation sector in the UAE.
For his part, Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, director-general of the GCAA, said, “We are proud today to launch CARDS, which is characterized by accuracy, privacy and ease of use.” Al Suwaidi added that the platform will give relevant government agencies insights into cargo movement in the country. Therefore, this will enhance their ability to identify the areas that need development in air cargo movement.
Al Suwaidi underscored CARDS’ commitment to continuous development and enhancement. Hence, CARDS plans to expand the scope of information beyond the UAE. Future updates will incorporate data on major cities, types of goods, and trade exchange dynamics, providing a holistic view of air cargo movement and enhancing trade facilitation efforts in the UAE.
