SAMENA TELECOMMUNICATIONS COUNCIL'S MEMBERS RECOGNIZED AT COMMSMEA AWARDS
Dubai — September 2, 2007— SAMENA Telecommunications
Council participated in one of the region’s most prestigious award
ceremonies where several SAMENA members participated and some were recognized
for their achievements in key telecommunications business areas.
Organized by the MENA region’s leading business-to-business telecom
publications, CommsMEA, the event assessed the performance of regional
telecommunications companies in 14 different areas of the industry and
celebrated a mix of 12 companies and personalities for their achievements.
A high profile panel of judges awarded leading regional operators for
SAMENA members present at the event included UAE’s du, which posed
tough competition to Etisalat-Misr for the prize of New Entrant of the
Year. Oman's second operator Nawras collected the award for Middle East
Mobile Operator of the Year. Inmarsat’s BGAN solution received
its due recognition as the Most Innovative Non-Voice Service of the
Other regional entities included MTC, which received the biggest recognition
as the Overall Operator of the Year. Qatar Telecom won the prize of
the Telecoms Deal of the Year for its acquisition of Wataniya Telecom
and Mena Telecom. Telecom Egypt received its due recognition as the
Fixed Line Operator of the Year.
SAMENA’s participation in this award ceremony reflected on the
Council’s commitment to witness its members’ continuous
growth and to play an active role in projecting its membership's achievements
using its regional platform.
The South Asia – Middle East – North Africa Telecommunications
Council congratulates all participants and the recipients of the CommsMEA
SAMENA Telecommunications Council is a tri-regional, non-profit
telecommunications association that embodies a community of South Asian,
Middle Eastern, and North African telecoms operators, manufacturers,
regulatory authorities, and academia. SAMENA aims to be the ultimate
promoter of collaboration and knowledge-sharing in the SAMENA region
that spans 25 countries, including Afghanistan, Algeria, Bahrain, Bangladesh,
Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Nepal, Oman,
Pakistan, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia,
Turkey, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen.
The Council is driven by telecoms issues that operators in South Asia,
the Middle East, and in North Africa face, and is determined in providing
its advocacy expertise to help aid the incubation of novel approaches
and ideas that would provide better means for the expansion and utilization
of telecommunications in the region.
