Founded in 1976 by the 21 member-states of the Arab League, Arabsat has been serving the growing needs of the Arab world for over 30 years. Now one of the world’s top satellite operators and by far the leading satellite services provider in the Arab world, it carries over 340 TV channels and 160 Radio stations reaching tens of millions of homes in more than 80 countries across the Middle East, Africa, Europe—and way beyond around the world—including an audience of over 164 million viewers in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region alone tuned into Arabsat’s video “hotspot” at 26° East.
Operating a growing ?eet of owned satellites at the 26° East and 30.5° East positions of the geostationary orbit, Arabsat is the only satellite operator in the MENA region offering the full spectrum of Broadcast, Telecommunications and Broadband services. This capacity will continue to expand with the launch of new satellites every year from 2010 to 2012, making the Arabsat satellite ?eet the youngest in the region with the highest possible reliability coupled to ultimate ?exibility. This translates to a now unrivalled in-orbit backup, as well as more space capacity than any other player in the region for more TV and radio broadcasting services, professional data network solutions, telephony and IP trunking backbone connectivity, and broadband Internet access for media and entertainment companies, corporate customers and government entities.
Arabsat also maintains strategic partnerships with most of the world’s leading satellite companies, packaged service aggregators, and Value-Added Service integrators, allowing customers to reach farther than ever and deliver content or state-of-the-art solutions to any end-viewer audience or business partner around the world.
In addition, through a series of strategic partnerships with the world’s leaders in satellite communications, Arabsat also provides seamless connectivity with the rest of the world via its "Global Bouquet" digital platforms, enabling its Broadcast customers to reach their final audiences 24/7 wherever they are.
Arabsat is committed to stay at the forefront of best-in-class satellite services in the region, continuously expanding its range of customer-oriented solutions with an unparalleled level of quality and reliability, bringing in cutting-edge technology, providing the largest-ever amount of capacity which positions it to rapidly become the HD-TV portal of the Middle East, plus constantly expanding footprints meeting the growing and evolving needs of its customers across the Arab world.
Arabsat’s main coverage area spans the Middle East and North Africa including Sudan. However, in the last 5 years , the telecommunications sector in the north and south of Africa has experienced huge demand. Arabsat has thus started expanding its reach to bring all of Africa within its coverage area. To achieve this, Arabsat has added its 5-A, 5-C and Badr-5 satellites to cover Africa, complementing its original Middle East coverage. These satellites are located at the Arabsat orbital positions of 20?, 26? and 30.5? East .
From a technical perspective, Arabsat currently operates capacity on three owned satellites at its 26° East and 30.5° East orbital positions.
