Badr AlBadr is the Managing Director for Smart, Connected Communities practice in Cisco covering emerging Asia and Africa, reporting to the Chief Globalization Officer. Formerly, Badr was the Managing Director for Cisco Saudi Arabia, responsible for developing and executing go-to-market strategies to drive growth in Saudi Arabia. Since he joined in the end of 2004, Cisco Saudi Arabia has grown many times, earning him the title of Cisco's Emerging Markets GM of the year 2006, following the title of the MEA Best New Comer of the year 2005. Badr is known for his passion to drive and tackle business problems in innovative ways: he has leveraged his leadership role to create a sense of urgency, line up the political sponsorship. Prior to assuming his post at Cisco Saudi Arabia, AlBadr lead consortia applying for telecom licenses in Saudi, successfully winning a fixed data licence. AlBadr also started an ISP and later headed AwalNet, where he managed the merger of what became the largest ISP in the region. His experience includes working in the government, in policy and regulation roles. AlBadr is a former trustee of the National Information Technology Plan and a former Member of the e-Commerce Advisory Committee, Ministry of Commerce. Al-Badr is a member of the board of a number of local companies. He has been a columnist in a local newspaper and delivered many public speeches and lectures.
